Project Summary:

App Builder is an AgilePoint NX component that provides the features needed to define, configure and publish custom apps.

Key Features:

  • Process Builder - Creates processes that determine the logic of your apps
  • eForm Builder - Creates web-based forms that let people add, change, and view the information in your apps
  • Data Entities - Creates and manages a custom data model that is native to the AgilePoint NX platform

As a team member responsible for redesigning the App Builder in 2020, I can tell that our primary focus was on updating the user interface to align with the new branding and match the overall design of the AgilePoint NX product. Despite the tight deadline, we knew that it was important to keep all of the existing functionality in place until the next release. However, in 2022, after hearing from our users and carefully considering their feedback, we knew it was time to make some changes.

Problem Definition

Problem Icon
  • The current design of the home screen presents plenty of information, resulting in user confusion and decreased engagement.
  • The hierarchy of elements within the interface is not intuitive and is causing user frustration.
  • The navigation and interaction with the application list are not optimal, particularly for customers with a large number of apps, leading to a poor user experience.

Inventory/Audit

In order to address the pain points of our customers, we started the design process by creating medium-fidelity screen mock-ups, which were then presented to stakeholders for review; see the part of it below:

Solution 👍

Based on feedback from stakeholders, I transformed the medium-fidelity prototype into high-fidelity screens. The images below show the changes made:

Outcomes

Problem Icon

By conducting research and testing, we were able to effectively resolve all the issues we had and create a design that put the user first, was easy to use, and well-organized. The new home screens display information in a simple and straightforward way, and the enhanced hierarchy and navigation significantly enhance the user's overall experience.

Key Learnings

Problem Icon
  1. Information overload can negatively impact user engagement and understanding, so it is important to simplify and clearly present information.

  2. Navigation and interaction with the application list should be designed to accommodate users with a large number of apps, ensuring that the user experience is consistent and positive.

  3. Regularly evaluate and adjust the design to ensure it remains effective in meeting the needs of the users.
